We finally have an update about The Last of Us Season 3, with creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann dropping major spoilers. In April this year, HBO announced that the hit sci-fi series, based on the popular video game franchise, has been renewed for a third season, even before the premiere of the second season. While celebrating the same on Tuesday, the co-creators offered a few details about what to expect next.
Speaking on the FYC panel, Mazin spoke about how they have built “extensive and meticulous” sets for all the action and drama – something that they may change for season 3. “It’s more of a water season than a fire season,” Druckmann added while Mazin confirmed, “It’s a wetter season than a hotter season
Further, Druckmann returned with actors Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna and Young Mazino. Kaitlyn Dever also joined the conversation; however, virtually from Australia. “I think it was good to go on that journey to end up at HBO, to end up at a place that leaned into those controversial decisions, I guess. But the decisions are just what the story required, and even now, it’s like I can’t believe that they let us structure the series in this way. Meaning, like, we just ended season two, and season three is going to be starring — spoiler alert — Kaitlyn,” Druckmann teased.
In an instant reaction, while Dever said, “What?” McElhenney teased, “Had you closed your deal yet? You just got a ton of leverage.”
Kaitlyn Dever joined The Last of Us in the second season as Abby, a character in the video game who brutally murders Pedro Pascal’s beloved characters. While it has been speculated that the third season would shift towards Dever’s story, it is yet to be officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, Season 2 concluded with a switch in perspective from Ellie’s to Abby, seemingly setting the stage for the upcoming season. The final casting is yet to be announced.
