Chicago Sky star Angel Reese exploded for a season-high 17 points on Tuesday against the New York Liberty, breaking out of her offensive slump. However, the sophomore forward failed to lead her team to a win, as Chicago suffered an 85-66 blowout loss, dropping to 2-6 on the season.
Reese added 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals, along with 17 points. She shot an impressive 8 of 13 (61.5%), also a season-high. Coming into the matchup, Reese had an underwhelming start to her second year in the league as her averages dropped to 9.1 points on 30.9% shooting in seven outings.
Her struggles finishing at the rim had seemingly worsened under Tyler Marsh, who took a new approach with Reese’s usage, using her in various roles. Tuesday’s performance should be relieving for him and the Sky, but it didn’t impress many WNBA fans, especially after Reese got a shoutout on the league’s X page.
The Sky were down 16 points when Angel Reese scored her 15th point to achieve her season-high score. Here’s how fans reacted, with one tweeting:
“The Liberty literally gave Jonquel Jones a day off because they know the Sky are a free wn.”
The Liberty literally gave Jonquel Jones a day off because they know the Sky are a free win
Liberty up by 28 as we go into the 4th quarter, Reese will blame Stewie and Ionescu for being Caucasian as the reason for not winning. 😅
The Liberty decided to be generous tonight it seems .
they’re barely even guarding her lmfao
My Liberty are being kind to Reeses Pieces tonight lol. Chicago Lucky we don’t do them dirty
