Kamal Haasan’s gangster drama Thug Life witnesses no significant growth at the box office. The film, marking the reunion of Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam after 37 years, generated quite a buzz among the audiences before its release. However, the film did not meet the expectations of the audience and saw little growth after the opening day.
Released on June 5, Thug Life received a strong initial response and collected Rs 15.5 crore on the opening day, as per Sacnilk reports. The film witnessed an overall 52.06% Tamil occupancy on that day, with Chennai, Pondicherry, and Coimbatore having the highest occupancy rates. Despite a successful opening day, the film witnessed a major dip in the upcoming week.
By its 8th day at the box office, Thug Life showed no significant growth. According to Sacnilk, the film started with a notable collection on Monday, earning Rs 2.3 crore, but by Thursday, the film saw a noticeable decline in the collection. On the 8th day, the film earned only Rs 1.15 crore, leading the total collection to Rs 43.37 crore. The film saw a declining trend in the occupancy rate, as on Thursday, Thug Life witnessed an overall 15.21 per cent Tamil occupancy.
The morning shows made a decent start with 14.85 per cent occupancy, while the afternoon shows saw a hike with 15.87 per cent occupancy. Evening shows witnessed a dip in the occupancy rate, decreasing to only 13.51 per cent, whereas the night shows had the highest occupancy of 16.62 per cent. Among the regions, Chennai, Pondicherry, Madurai, and Kochi witnessed the highest occupancy rates.
Helmed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life features a versatile lineup of cast, including Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Ali Fazal, Joju George, Nassar, and Rohit Saraf. Alongside acting, Haasan was also one of the producers of the film. Thug Life revolves around an infamous mafia kingpin named Rangaraaya Sakthivel (played by Kamal Hassan), who seeks redemption and is determined to take revenge after being betrayed by his close ones, including his brother (played by Nassar) and Amaran (played by Silambarasan), the one he raised. As Sakthivel begins to take revenge on his enemies, the film touches upon the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and power dynamics.
