The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has written a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to withhold certification of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film Sardaar ji 3. In its letter, FWICE requested CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi not to grant a certificate to the movie since it reportedly stars Pakistani actors Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela.
“In light of recent directives issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B Ministry), prohibiting Pakistani-origin content and collaboration with Pakistani artistes in Indian productions, and the parallel stance adopted by FWICE, we urge CBFC to align with these directives and national interest considerations before proceeding with certification,” the letter read.
“We appreciate CBFC’s impartial and rigorous certification process and trust that you will give due consideration to this request,” it added.
Previously, the BJP Chitrapat Kamgar Aghaadi also opposed the inclusion of Pakistani artists in Diljit Dosanjh’s movie and asked the CBFC not to allow the film to be released in India. “We strongly oppose any Pakistani artiste being associated with Indian cinema. It is the demand of the BJP Chitrapat Kamgar Union that Sardar Ji 3 should not be allowed to receive a censor certificate. This is not just a political issue—it is about national sentiment and the dignity of our country,” the union said in a statement.
For the unversed, on April 22, 2025, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists attacked civilians in the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, and killed 26 people in cold blood. All the deceased from the attack were identified as tourists, including one Nepali national. India launched a counter-terror strike on Pakistan roughly 2 weeks after the Pahalgam attack, and destroyed majority of the terror infrastructure across Pakistan.
Amid the tensions between India and Pakistan, the Government of India also issued an advisory to OTT platforms, media streaming services, and intermediaries regarding content originating from Pakistan. All streaming platforms were advised to discontinue Pakistan-origin content, including films, web series, songs, and podcasts, with immediate effect. Social media accounts of Pakistani actors were also banned in India.
