An Air India aircraft with 242 passengers on board crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat. Early visuals shared on social media show thick black smoke rising into the sky. According to initial reports, the flight was en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick when the incident occurred.
Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal took to Instagram Stories to share his thoughts and offer prayers. He wrote, “Devasting news of the AirIndia plane crash… making my heart sink reading about 242 persons on board. Praying for everyone’s safety and recovery.”
Earlier, Janhvi Kapoor, too, took to Instagram Stories to share her thoughts on the tragedy. “Shaken by the news of the Air India flight crash that took place shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The weight of such tragedies is impossible to put into words. Praying deeply for the passengers, the crew, and every family waiting for answers tonight.”
Air India Flight Crash Ahmedabad Today
The Air India Boeing Dreamliner, headed for London, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. Initial reports suggest the aircraft went down in a densely populated area near the airport, prompting local residents to quickly gather at the scene to assist in rescue efforts. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reportedly traveled from Surat to Ahmedabad to take stock of the situation. According to an IANS report, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the incident with Patel, and the central government has assured full support in managing the aftermath.
Air India took to X and confirmed the mishap in a post on X. “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025,” the post read.

The Air India flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner twin-jet, had 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board, including Pilot in Command Sumit Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kunder. The aircraft took off from Ahmedabad at 13:38 hrs, carrying a total of 242 people.
