Kajol is gearing up for the release of her upcoming horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by her husband Ajay Devgn. The film is slated to hit theatres on June 27. As part of the promotions, Kajol opened up about working with Ajay as a producer and did so with her trademark sense of humour.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Kajol jokingly said, “What should I say about this producer? Mujhe bohot harass aur tang kiya hai isne (He has harassed me a lot). No one will believe it (laughs).” However, she quickly turned serious and added, “No. He was quite a wonderful producer. I have to say that about him.”
Kajol also revisited a conversation she had with Ajay that reflected on gender roles. She recalled, “My husband Ajay ji once told me that you are so lucky. You don’t know how lucky you are; you can become Nysa’s friend. You will eventually become a grandmother. You are a mother. You have been my wife. You have managed all of these roles nicely and naturally. You didn’t have to make an effort. Today, as a man, I have to make an effort to be all of these things.” She added, “As women, we are taught that from the time we are children. We are so adaptable.”
The trailer of Maa showcases Kajol in a fierce avatar as a mother determined to protect her daughter from a supernatural force. The story begins with a simple road trip that quickly spirals into horror when a mysterious entity strikes their car window, stranding them in the ominous village of Chandanpur. As eerie events unfold, Kajol’s character discovers a cursed tree linked to a series of disappearances. Despite warnings, she refuses to let her daughter become a sacrifice to break the curse.
Maa also stars Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Surjyasikha Das. Backed by Devgn Films and Jio Studios, the film promises a gripping mix of mythology and horror.
