Ahead of her third show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Beyonce made headlines for distributing free tickets to low-income families for the concert. The reason — the singer stepped in with the decision to give out free tickets to avoid empty seats during the show — a part of her Cowboy Carter tour, as swathes of seats remained unsold. The families have been offered the tickets via food banks in North London which help feed the needy.
According to the sources close to Beyonce, “Several low-income families in the capital have been offered tickets by food banks, which help feed the needy.”
Talking about the misunderstanding regarding the ticket pricing, a spokesperson at Ticketmaster shared, “Since tickets typically go on sale at least three to six months before the event, organizers may review prices at key points leading up to the show.”
Beyonce’s concert has been a subject of discussion ever since the beginning of the year. Earlier, when tickets went on sale in February, fans were left shocked. The changes in the seating were made only a few days before the concert, leaving them disappointed.
The tour, initially, had the highest top-priced ticket of any artist performing in the UK this year. It was priced at £950 (approximately Rs 1,09,473). Later, promoters slashed the prices, leaving many infuriated over the money they spent. In the fan presale, certain tickets were estimated to be worth around £620 (Rs 71,433) but were later made available for £141.60 (Rs 16,316).
Annoyed by the last-minute seat changes, a fan shared the screengrab of the notification they got from Ticketmaster before the first Cowboy Carter concert in California, informing them about changes in their seats. It read, “Due to changes in stage production, your original seats for the Cowboy Carter tour will now have an obstructed view.”
The notification further added, “The event organized has accommodated you with new seats in a comparable location on the floor. Your new tickets are in your Ticketmaster account now; your original tickets are no longer valid for entry.”
Others felt ‘blessed’, revealing they were given free VIP upgrades for free after the changes in sitting arrangement.
While the musician struggles to sell her concert tickets, it cannot be denied that her newest album, Cowboy Carter, was highly praised by the fans and music enthusiasts, even earning the singer a Grammy for her 40-song set.
