Global icon Priyanka Chopra has expressed grief over the tragic Air India flight crash in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing 241 people on board. PeeCee took to her Instagram stories and extended her condolences to the families of the victims.
“So so sad. Praying everyone affected and the families facing unimaginable loss in the Air India tragedy,” she wrote.
Priyanka Chopra is not the first celebrity to express grief over the shocking incident, which is being described as one of the worst aviation disasters in Indian history. Previously, several other Indian film personalities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Allu Arjun, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Rashmika Mandanna, Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar, Sonu Sood, Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan also expressed sorrow.
“Absolutely heartbroken with the news about the crash in Ahmedabad… my prayers for the victims, their families and all affected,” Shah Rukh Khan wrote. Riteish Deshmukh also shared a note on his X handle which read, “Absolutely heartbroken and in shock after hearing about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. My heart goes out to all the passengers, their families, and everyone affected on the ground. Holding them all in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
For the unversed, an Air India aircraft with 242 passengers on board crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat on Thursday. Initial reports suggest the aircraft went down in a densely populated area near the airport, prompting local residents to quickly gather at the scene to assist in rescue efforts.
Later, Air India confirmed the accident in an official statement on X and wrote, “UPDATE: Air India confirms that flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on 12 June 2025, was involved in an accident. The 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew. The aircraft crashed shortly after take-off. We regret to inform that, of the 242 aboard, there are 241 confirmed fatalities. The sole survivor is being treated in a hospital.”
